July Fertilizer Sales Show Strong Kharif Momentum
Fertilizer sales in July point to strong demand momentum during the ongoing Kharif 2026 season.
According to government data shared through PIB, July alone achieved nearly 60% of the total fertilizer sales volume recorded in Q1 FY27.
The trend was visible across key fertilizer categories. Urea sales stood at about 43 lakh MT in July, compared with around 69 lakh MT in Q1 FY27. DAP sales were also strong, with July volumes at about 11 lakh MT, against roughly 15 lakh MT in the first quarter. NPK sales stood at nearly 15 lakh MT in July, while MOP sales were close to 2 lakh MT.
This demand has come at a time when inventory availability remains comfortable. As of July 29, 2026, stock availability stood at around 65 lakh MT for urea, 44 lakh MT for NPK, 16 lakh MT for DAP and nearly 6 lakh MT for MOP.
The larger story is also about distribution. The Government’s One Nation, One Fertilizer initiative, implemented under the Pradhanmantri Bhartiya Janurvarak Pariyojana, has brought subsidised fertilizers under the common BHARAT brand. The objective is to improve availability, reduce confusion among farmers, lower avoidable inter-state movement and ensure timely supply across the country.
For investors, the data is worth tracking because fertilizer demand is closely linked with the agricultural cycle, rural activity and crop input intensity. Strong July sales indicate healthy on-ground movement during the Kharif season, while comfortable stock availability reduces the risk of supply disruption.
The key monitorables from here will be rainfall distribution, crop sowing progress, subsidy policy, import costs, channel inventory and farmer demand through the rest of the season.
The July data shows that fertilizer demand has started the quarter on a strong note, backed by adequate availability and improved distribution management.
